Shine on New Year's Eve

Have you done all your Christmas shopping? Every year this question is eclipsed by another important question: What are you going to wear for New Year’s Eve? Here are our tips for creating a dazzling look that’s guaranteed to make you shine this New Year’s Eve!

Make-up
A ‘sparkle of mystery’ can underpin the season’s festive theme. The aim is achieve to a balance between glittering temptation and the mysterious.

As with all make-up, applying foundation is the basis of success and concealer can hide minor skin imperfections and dark circles under the eyes.

Now here comes the first trick: Apply a shimmer powder on top of your foundation to make your face and neckline subtly twinkle. Rouge is not the star of the show this year; rather it visually shapes the cheekbones in muted tones.

Your eyes will be the attention-grabbers this year by emphasising their individual characteristics. Select a shimmering shade based on your eye colour for the area around the eyes: Silver for blue eyes, gold for brown and earthy metal shades for green eyes. The trendiest look is called smoky touch which consists of outlining the eye with black eyeliner or kohl. Curved eyelashes highlighted with mascara will round out your seductive look perfectly.

Go in with a bang
Dark shades of red lipstick will drive away any tiredness and make for a sensuous promise for the coming year. Take it to the limit! Frame your lips with a slightly darker lip liner and then moisten your kissable lips with a shiny lip gloss.

Why not make your nails glisten as well? Either use glittering polish in a similar shade to your lip colour or a subtler one. You can refine your nail colour by adding a clear topcoat.

The right outfit
Glamour means emphasising your best physical attractions. This can be an attractive neckline, rounded curves or infinitely delicate extremities. Whether the cut of your outfit accentuates your front or back, or whether you choose evening gloves that reach the elbow, it depends entirely on what your best physical assets are.

In any case, don’t let your look give too much away – instead rely on brilliant accents against a simple background – just like fireworks!
